There are a few key defining moments in history which are like anchors in the road of life. Decisions were made along the way.

BTTF is an American Science fiction film made in 1985.  The idea was conceived then produced and directed by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, Neil Canton.

So, the story goes something like this…

The “Doc” is working on a time machine and has basically cracked time travel. Or be it in theory. He hasn’t tested it yet. The machine is a DMC DeLorean. A pretty good choice being as they were a cool looking car.  Sleek design, Sporty but powerful. And with over 9,000 being produced by DMC there would be no problems getting another one should something break during filming. In the film the DeLorean isn’t run on regular gas. Nope! No sirree. This thing is run on enriched plutonium!

The Doc and Einstein meet Marty in a deserted parking lot where he introduces him to The DeLorean, wheeling it out from the back of a truck. Marty is surprised to say the least. excited but seemingly anxious about time the tells Marty to record the forthcoming events on a video camera a JVC GR-C1 to be exact. Once Marty has started recording the Doc explains how he’d invented a time machine and then quickly gets Einstein to jump in the driver’s seat of the DeLorean. He puts the seat belt on Einstein and synchronises his stopwatch but one around the dog’s neck. He then shuts the door and runs back to a safe place with Marty. Grabbing a Radio Control, he manoeuvres The DeLorean into position doing driving fast but skilfully.  Once the car is in position, they move out directly in the path of the car, as he uses the radio control to accelerate. The car doesn’t move other than the vibration from the engine, shocks and rear wheels spinning with a lot of smoke before the Doc get’s the car up to 65 miles per hour. Finally releasing the brakes, the car speeds down towards them and in a few seconds the neon lights which are around the cars steal frame, flash to life and electricity dances around the chassis. Fear and human nature make Marty try to bolt as the speeding car approaches but the Doc grabs his arm and stops him saying “Watch this!” The car already accelerating reaches 88 miles per hour and disappears in a plume of smoke, lightning and leaves a flaming trail as tire tracks burn beneath their feet.

The number plate “OUTATIME spins on the road in front of them and Marty stands in disbelief. Mouth open. Still clutching the camera. He picks up the Number plate but in a second drops it as his fingers singe. The plate is red hot!  Meanwhile in the background the Doc is jumping up and down shouting “What did I tell ya! 88 miles per hour”!  All Marty can think is if the plate is hot then that must mean. “Jesus Christ Doc, you disintegrated Einstein”! The doc assures Marty that all is well and that both the dog and the car are fine.  Marty can’t believe it! It goes beyond the laws of understanding.

“Wait a minute Doc now… Are you telling me, that you made a time machine… out of a DeLorean?” The Doc endorses DeLorean by say “if you’re gonna build a Time Machine you’ve gotta do it with some style!”

The pair exchange more disbelief and excitement and in a measured minute The Doc checks his watch, he pulls Marty to safety as the car reappears in a flash of light with brakes screeching to a halt. The Doc approaches the car cautiously and as it sits idle a huge plume of smoke is ejected out of the vents mounted on the back of the car. This makes the Doc stop for a second and look anxiously. When the smoke has dissipated, he continues toward the car, moving to glance through the front window looking for signs of life.  He tries to open the driver’s door but winces, holding and then shaking his hand vigorously as if burnt. Marty is watching the Doc intently “what’s the matter? Too hot?” “No! Too cold.” Answers the Doc.  He uses his foot instead to open the door catch and watches as the DeLorean’s seagull door lifts open.

Of course, as predicted Einstein is perfectly fine, and the Doc greets him like an old friend.  The time on Einstein’s stopwatch its exactly one minute into the future.

I guess the reason for me writing all this is that it’s been a few years since I’ve watched Back to the Future, and I couldn’t remember who time travelled first. Turns out it was the Dog! Haha

Well, if you’ve never seen this epic movie, I think you should give it a watch.  For one thing it’s a good story and well directed by and I absolutely love the actors and actresses in it including Einstein! There’s plenty to talk about here in my Forum so feel free to pop in after the Movie and discuss what you think further. We've also got Memorabilia from the 1980's to download!

The soundtrack to this movie was good too. With the original movie score being written and produced by Alan Silvestri and the “OUTATIME Orchestra.  It featured hits from Huey Lewis and the News. The Power of Love, Hip to be Square and Heaven is on step away by Eric Clapton to name but a few. Here’s the complete playlist: -
